BOBCATSSS 2004 - RIGA LATVIA
JANUARY 26-28, 2004 - Excursion into the City

Riga skyline with the January Atmosphere

The castle in Riga which now houses the government and museums

The recently renovated City Hall in Riga

The recently restored "Blackhead" house which was a merchant Guild in medieval days

The Cathedral in Riga (note the rooster on the spire instead of a cross, indicating a Lutheran Church)

Inside the Cathedral is a hall that was the Riga municipal library for a number of years

The "Cat House" constructed across from a Guild that refused to admit the architect to membership, so he placed a cat with its tail raised toward the Guild building until they agreed to make him a member. He then turned the cat around.

One of the old Guild houses in Riga

Riga has many art nouveau buildings. Below are a selection seen during a tour around the city

A cat welcomes us as we are on the art nouveau tour as Jessica and our tour guide pause to greet the cat

Remnants of original City Wall from the middle ages

Across from the University are the ducks that are waiting until spring for the ice to thaw.

Behind the Jana Church (next to my apartment) is a sculpture of the Musicians of Bremen folklore characters

Entrance to courtyard of former Dominican Monastery where my apartment is located.

View from the window of my apartment out into Jana Seta (John's Square) which was the monastery courtyard originally.

Jana Church and street to my apartment.

Jessica and Terry have a goodbye visit to the top of the Reval Hotel and a look at Riga a night
